Anglo-Arab

Origin
France

History
The Anglo-Arab results from the fusion of the two preeminent horse breeds: the English Thoroughbred and the Arabian. The Anglo-Arab is bred throughout the world, especially in France where the animals have almost become a new and distinct breed.
Thoroughbred blood was introduced to French horses in 1830, but in 1836 systematic breeding began at Pompadour. It was based on the use of two principal Arabian sires, Massoud and Aslan and three Thoroughbred foundation mares.
The traditional breeding centers for the Anglo-Arab are at Pompadour, Tarbes, Pau and Gelos. The requirement for studbook entry is still at least 25 percent Arabian blood, with only Anglo-Arab, Arabian, or Thoroughbred ancestry.
