The Balearic island horse or pony is among the rarest of equine breeds. This breed is of ancient origin and little known. It may be descended from horses shown on ancient Greek coins and vases. This breed is most abundant in the Palma district.

Description

• Conformation:
  slender limbs, free, graceful carriage, a short, thick, arched neck, and delicate head with Roman nose
• Average height:
  14 h.h.
• Colour:
  usually bay or chestnut, sometimes grey
• Today:
  they are used on small farms for agricultural work and by tourists in harness and riding.
