Danube

Origin
Bulgaria

History
The Danubian was developed by crossing halfbred mares with stallions of the Nonius breed . Production of this breed began in 1924 in the Clementina stud near Pleven.
The main habitation for this breed is the Dunav (Danube) valley and part of the plains region of Southern Bulgaria. Over the past 20 years, special measures have been taken for the development of these horses. The foundation stock includes at present English Thoroughbred mares and stallions, mostly imported from Russia, Poland, Germany and Romania. The use of Thoroughbred blood results in horses with excellent competitive abilities.
