Dole Trotter
Origin
Norway
History / Description
The basis for the Dole Trotter was the lighter type of Dole Gudbrandsdal. It was developed in the 19th century. These horses were then crossed with imported trotted stallions, which were often Swedish. In Scandinavia, the former USSR and Europe, the diagonal trotting gait predominates in harness racing, and the Swedish horses are no exception. Therefore, the Dole Trotters are also raced in that gait and show no inclination toward the lateral pacing movement. Much attention is given to the improvement of performance and to qualify for entry in the studbook Dole Trotter stallions are tested over 1,000 meters. The time limit for the distance is three minutes.
The Dole Trotter colors are mostly black and brown, although bays can also be found. The refining Thoroughbred influence is apparent in the head of the Trotter, which is long and clean-cut, and tapers to a neat muzzle. The average height of the Dole Trotter is 15.1 hh.
