Galiceno

Origin
Mexico

History
The Galiceno Pony of Mexico is an example of the Spanish legacy. The Spanish conquistadores brought horses to the continent in the early 16th century and the Galiceno was among the first horses landed by Hernando Cortés when he invaded Mexico in 1519.
Although the Galicenos were in part ancestors to the thousands of mustangs that have endured for centuries in the U.S. Southwest, pure Galicenos never migrated north to join other equine breeds in the United States. The Galiceno was only introduced into the US during the 1950s and was officially recognized as a breed in 1958.
